Becoming Catholic

If you’re considering becoming Catholic, or a Catholic that never received First Reconciliation and First Eucharist, then the RCIA process (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) might be for you.

RCIA prepares men and women to make a conscious choice whether or not they want to receive the sacraments of initiation offered by the Catholic Church (Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation).

If you are thinking about being Catholic, we do offer classes each year (August to Easter). Read below to find out which classes work best for you (or your family).

Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA)

  • Adults who were never baptized and wish to become Catholic.
  • Adults baptized in another faith and wish to become Catholic.
  • Adults baptized Catholic but missed their other sacraments.

RCIA Catechumen and Candidates are formed throughout the year. There are several Rites and Scrutinies throughout the year (recognition at mass and among our parish) that each Catechumen and Candidate will be expected to attend. This group celebrates their sacraments at Easter Vigil at the site determined by our Pastorate.

In the meantime, you are welcome at Mass. We just ask that you do not receive Holy Eucharist. You are able to come forward for a blessing at Communion time if you wish.

To find out more about the RCIA, please call or email the Parish Office at 608-884-3038, option 2.

Adult Confirmation Preparation

There are Catholic adults that missed only their Confirmation. These Confirmands may use our RCIA course to receive the preparation for Confirmation. However, if enough interest exists, a separate group may be formed to better address their needed formation. Adult Confirmation is received at a Sunday Mass around Pentecost. This mass is officiated by Bishop Hying.

To find out more about Adult Confirmation, please call or email the Parish Office at 608-884-3038, option 2.

Children’s Catechumenal Process

  • Children that were not baptized in any religion
  • Children that were baptized in another religion
  • Children receiving sacraments beyond our standard years

These classes will prepare each child for their needed sacraments and prepare them to join Faith Formation the following year with their peers.

While Easter Vigil is the preferred sacrament event for these children, the Catholic church does recognize that not all children will appreciate the large celebration. Families can elect for a private sacramental rite.

To find out more about Children’s Catechumenal Process, please call or email the Parish Office at 608-884-3038, option 2.
