Youth (Grades 1-9)
All Youth Religious Education classes are held at St. Joseph’s from September through late April/early May. Registration information will be sent via FlockNote or you may download the 2020 Registration Form here.
2020 Fees for all students Grades 1-9 are $30 each, maximum for a family is $80. (Non-Parish Members $80 ea/$200 per family max.) Parents who teach in the program will have their family’s fees waived.
Due to the unforeseen nature of COVID-19, this year’s curriculum will be a hybrid with both in-person classes and at home learning. We will be meeting in person once every fourth week. Our first in person class/start date is September 23, 2020. (Please see the Welcome Letter for the in-person class schedule.) At that class, students will be given supplemental packets to be completed at home for the following weeks until we meet in person again.
We have chosen to use Pflaum Publications’ Gospel Weeklies as a basis for all grades for their religious education learning. This program follows the weekly Gospel and provides online tools like videos and assessments.
Elementary Students – Grades 1-5
Class for students in grade 1-5 is held on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 pm. They walk from the elementary school, while students from Yahara either ride with their parents or are bussed in together if the need and funds are available.
Middle & High School Students – Grades 6-10
Class for students in grade 6-9 is held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30 pm.
Freshmen prepare for Confirmation using a resource from Pflaum called, Confirmation: Receiving the Gift of the Spirit. It is 8 lessons organized around the themes: The Way, The Truth and The Life. The remainder of the year is spent on Theology of the Body.
Sacramental Religious Education for Youth
First Reconciliation & Eucharist – Students in 2nd grade (who have completed 1st grade catechism) will work on the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist at home, with their families. Orientation meetings with follow-up meetings are held throughout the year. There is an additional cost for these two sacraments, which is currently about $30. See the Reconciliation and First Holy Communion pages for more information on these sacraments.
Confirmation – Students receive confirmation in the spring of their sophomore year. To be confirmed, the student must meet all the requirements for the sacrament. It is a one-year program during their freshman year. See the Confirmation page for more information on this sacrament.
